SouthCAP is a nick name of the technical cooperation project of Japan International Cooperation AGENCY (JICA), entitled “Project on Rural Livelihood Improvement in Hambantota District”, executed by Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, and implemented by Southern Provincial Council.
SouthCAP is supporting the communities’ positive activities (e.g. agriculture techniques improvement, women activities, skill development activities, health and nutrition activities, small scale infrastructure, etc.) in nine selected Grama Niladhari divisions in Hambantota district, which is one of the highest poverty striken area in Sri Lanka, through CAP* process and effective use of existing institutions. The experiences of SouthCAP are expected to be accumulated in the existing organizations and disseminated to other areas in Southern Province.
* CAP stands for “COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN” and is locally initiated, participatory, locally directed development process. |
